The names of the governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party in Ogun State were missing on the list of the Independent National Electoral Commission released on Tuesday.

One of our correspondents observed that the commission released names of 13 political parties and their candidates in the final list.

The PDP appeared on the list as number 21, but the names of both the governorship candidate and the running mate were missing.

The commission cited ‘court order’ as a reason for the omission.

The PUNCH reported that a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta had last week Tuesday nullified all the primaries conducted by the party in the state.

The court also barred INEC from recognising Ladi Adebutu as the governorship candidate of the party in the state.

Delivering his ruling, Justice O.O. Oguntoyinbo ordered fresh primaries for all the positions within 14 days.

The members of the party had dragged the party, Ladi Adebutu, and INEC to court, challenging the authenticity of the delegates’ lists used for the conduct of the primaries.

In the case of the LP, neither the party nor its candidate appeared on the INEC list.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commission, Niyi Iyalaje, told our correspondent that the list pasted was the one authorised by INEC headquarters in Abuja.

Delta State

Meanwhile, the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori, was cleared by INEC as the PDP governorship candidate.

The candidacy of Oborevwori was in doubt after the May 25 primary following a court case instituted by Mr David Edevbie, who challenged the academic credentials Oborevwori presented.

Kano State

Also, the name of Mohammed Abacha was missing as the PDP governorship candidate in Kano State.

Instead, the name of Wali Sadiq was displayed by INEC as the governorship candidate, with Suleima Bello, as his running mate.

However, the name of Gawuna Yusuf, who is the current Kano State Deputy Governor was displayed in the list as the APC governorship candidate, with Sule Murtala as his running mate.

Also, Yakasai Tanko, son of an elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, was displayed on INEC list as the state governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, while Mohammad Musa will run as his deputy.
