Lagos rehabilitates Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Public Works Corporation has said the maintenance work on sections of the Third Mainland Bridge is part of its state-wide road maintenance and rehabilitation operations.

The General Manager of LSPWC, Lateef Somide, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, during the inspection of the work in Lagos.

He said, “Even though the maintenance of the bridge is under the purview of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, the Lagos State Government decided to provide the one-off intervention on critical sections which were not only slowing down traffic but were also leading to accidents in some cases.

“This effort is in furtherance of Mr Governor’s commitment to the unhindered movement of persons and goods in Lagos, in order to promote its status as the commercial nerve centre of the country. The agency chose to fix the third mainland bridge between 9am and 4pm on Sunday when traffic is usually lighter on the corridor. This is in line with the corporation’s sensitivity to minimising inconvenience on road users whenever its men are on the road.”

Somide added that LSPWC had commenced road maintenance in several areas in the state.

“In the last two weeks, LSPWC’s presence has been felt in many parts of Lagos, which include Emmanuel Keshi Street, Kosofe; Abdul Quadri Street, Kosofe; Sabo Roundabout, Ikorodu; Haruna Akintola Street, Ikorodu; Herbert Macaulay Street, Lagos Mainland; Barikisu Iyede Street, Lagos Mainland; Abiodun Sobajo Street, Lagos Mainland; First Foundation Street, Opebi, Ikeja.

“For road users in parts of Lagos yet to be visited by our men, it will soon be their turn as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has continued to support the agency in the bid to sustain the goal of a Lagos where all roads are motorable all year round,” he said.
