The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Oyo State Chapter has advised the teeming youths to maintain the peace and resist being used for nefarious activities before, during and after the 2023 general elections .
This admonition was conveyed through a communique issued and signed by the Chairman of the association – Alh Adebayo Abdur-rofih, after its monthly meeting held today, Sunday July 31, 2022 in Ibadan.
The meeting deliberated on a number of issues ranging from insecurity, and impending flooding to good conduct by youths in the coming Elections in 2023 among others.
The MMPN, therefore, recommended that in order to save the country from chaos by making security their priority , MMPN urged every individual and other stakeholders in the security architecture to intensify efforts towards curtailing security breaches in their respective communities.
“This, the MMPN believes it is imperative at this time that insecurity is becoming pervasive and seemingly beyond what the security agencies alone can cope with. Community security and vigilante options are imperative at this period.”
Also “that Nigerians should take preventive measures to prevent impending flooding as warned by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET). The flooding is expected to affect 223 Local Government areas across the country including some in the Southwest.”
” That the indiscriminate dumping of refuse should be avoided by the citizens and those who have their houses built on the waterways should be more vigilant and possibly relocate to avoid the destruction of lives and property.”
That as the 2023 General Elections approach,” all stakeholders—politicians, security agencies, the media, the electorate and the INEC should conduct the electioneering stages with fear of God and love of mankind.”
“That in the interest of the country and the progress of Nigeria, the government at all levels should intensify efforts to protect the lives and property of Nigerians. Also, that the citizens should see themselves as members of the same family who need to love one another for the sake of the goodness of Nigeria” , the communique said.
