2027 OKE-OGUN SENATORIAL CONTEST: WORK TOWARDS A COMMON GOAL- Hon Adekunle
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

As the advocacy for fairness, equitable representation in Oke-Ogun senatorial District heightens, former Minority Leader and current Chairman, Oyo State Pensions Board, Hon Rafiu Tunji Adekunle has appealed to all sons and daughters of Oke-Ogun zone to embrace unity towards ensuring victory for her candidate in the 2027 senatorial contest.

He admonished them to shun all divisive tendencies which has plaqued the zone leading to their three-time defeats by a candidate from just three local governments, despite their majority ten local governments.

The statement which was made available to dejoymedia.online in Ibadan Tuesday morning states:

“The call for unity in Oke Ogun, Oyo State, is indeed timely and necessary. For far too long, infighting, unhealthy competition, and conflicts have hindered development in the region. It’s high time for leaders, elders, artisans, teachers, students, market women, religious leaders, politicians, Obas, and chiefs to put aside their differences and work towards a common goal.

The 2027 Senatorial contest presents a golden opportunity for the region to come together and demand better representation. With eminently qualified sons and daughters, Oke Ogun has the potential to drive development and growth. It’s essential to look beyond political sentiment and support candidates who genuinely have the region’s best interests at heart.

The fact that three local government areas have dominated the region’s politics for 12 years, at the expense of the other 10, is a clear indication that change is needed. It’s time to break this cycle and work towards a more inclusive and equitable representation.

As the Oke Ogun Council of Elders has emphasized, security is also a major concern in the region. The federal and Oyo State governments must take urgent action to address the insecurity challenges facing Oke Ogun, including the influx of Fulani herdsmen and the lack of fairness in the handling of farmers/herders’ clashes.

Let’s begin the advocacy from our doorsteps and build a momentum that will bring about the desired changes in Oke Ogun. By working together, we can achieve a brighter future for our region. A stitch in time saves nine, indeed”, the statement concluded.
