In a significant development, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has successfully mediated the interconnect debt dispute between MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. and Globacom Limited. This resolution marks a pivotal moment in ensuring uninterrupted services for subscribers.
As part of the resolution, the NCC has withdrawn the disconnection approval previously granted to MTN for Globacom. This decision reflects the commitment of the NCC to maintain a seamless telecommunications network across the country.
The NCC’s proactive intervention included facilitating discussions between the involved parties and overseeing a reconciliation process to address the underlying issues. Emphasizing the importance of compliance, the NCC underscores the necessity for all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to strictly adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in their licenses, particularly in interconnection agreements.
Looking ahead, the NCC will implement measures to prevent future instances of interconnect indebtedness within the industry. This includes requesting relevant records and regular updates from MNOs and adopting a transparent approach to address industry indebtedness comprehensively.
This statement reaffirms the NCC’s unwavering commitment to fostering a stable and compliant telecommunications ecosystem in Nigeria.
