President Bola Tinubu has ordered a thorough investigation into the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, led by Betta Edu. The controversy surrounds the alleged approval of N585,198,500.00 into a personal account.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced the probe on Sunday, emphasizing the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Edu, 37, the youngest minister in the President’s cabinet, denies wrongdoing and asserts plans to tarnish her image. She insists on her commitment to avoiding embezzlement of government funds.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is concurrently probing Edu’s predecessor, Sadiya Farouq, over alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her tenure.

In a statement, Information Minister Idris acknowledged the uproar, stating that the government is determined to unravel the truth.

The President’s directive for a comprehensive investigation aims to ascertain the accuracy and validity of the reported details. Idris assured Nigerians of the government’s focus on a fair and unbiased process, promising to communicate findings transparently.

“We urge Nigerians to exercise patience as the investigation unfolds,” said Idris. The government is committed to public accountability and due process, with appropriate action promised to address identified breaches and infractions.

Progress updates on the investigation will be communicated to the public in a timely and transparent manner.
