The Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre has taken significant action in response to a detailed petition submitted by Dr. Seye Oladejo, leading to the arrest of three individuals involved in cyberstalking and threats to life.
The arrested suspects—Adebukola Kolapo, Nnedum Micheal Somtomchukwu, and Isaac Akpokighe—are identified as key members of the Gistlover family, a syndicate responsible for operating the contentious microblogging platform known for its controversial content and engagement in cyberstalking, incitement, blackmail, and other illicit activities.
The allegations against the suspects extend beyond mere association, implicating them in the daily running of the Gistlover blog, which has consistently triggered public outcry over the years.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, detailed in a statement that the suspects are not only linked to cyberstalking but are also accused of playing roles in incitement and blackmail, underlining the gravity of the charges.
Furthermore, the statement delves into the outcomes of digital forensic analysis, revealing the recovery of multiple Gistlover pages. Adebukola Kolapo’s involvement stands out, as he is alleged to have created over 80 percent of the Gistlover pages, leaving a substantial digital footprint in the perpetration of the criminal activities associated with the blog.
The suspects are reported to have enjoyed incentives such as car gifts and monetary rewards, with Adebukola specifically tasked with scouting, editing, and captioning content, including cyberstalking posts targeting complainants.
The statement emphasizes that the suspects will face charges once the investigation reaches its conclusion, highlighting the thoroughness of the legal proceedings.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi issues a stern warning against any form of support for illegal activities similar to those associated with the Gistlover blog, reinforcing the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring the safety of citizens in both the physical and digital realms.
