A non-governmental organization, Ifeoluwa Cerebral Palsy Initiative, is urging government assistance in subsidizing medications for cerebral palsy management.

Founder Mr. Ifeoluwa Anishe, himself a cerebral palsy patient with a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling, made this plea during a weekend outreach in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The initiative not only calls for drug subsidies but also advocates for societal acceptance and the eradication of stigmatization against cerebral palsy patients.

During the outreach, the NGO visited the homes of 13 cerebral palsy patients, bringing cheer during the event labeled “Christmas Visit to CP Champions.” The visiting team comprised physiotherapists, counsellors, and other professionals.

Anishe explained that the essence of the Christmas visit was to understand the challenges faced by cerebral palsy patients in their environment and explore ways to address them.

Sharing his personal journey, Anishe revealed the difficulties faced as a cerebral palsy patient, emphasizing that securing employment had been challenging since completing his degree at the University of Ilorin 10 years ago.

To sustain himself, Anishe engages in a POS business and sells phone accessories. Additionally, he receives support from family and friends.

The foundation, led by Anishe, is committed to championing the interests of cerebral palsy patients, aiming to make life easier for them.

Anishe stated, “Significantly, this foundation will take the responsibility of creating more awareness in the precautions and management of cerebral palsy, not just in Kwara State but in Nigeria as a whole.

This involves reaching every home with cerebral palsy victims, providing both medical and financial support as needed.”

The Ifeoluwa Cerebral Palsy Initiative seeks to draw attention to the plight of cerebral palsy patients, combat stigma, and offer tangible support, both in terms of awareness creation and practical assistance.
