President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja following his attendance at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Apart from actively participating in the conference, President Tinubu engaged in bilateral talks with notable figures, including King Charles of England, the President of the UAE, and leaders from various countries and multilateral partners to solidify collaborative efforts.

During his visit, President Tinubu witnessed the signing of an accelerated performance agreement between Nigeria and Germany, aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s electricity supply.

Additionally, he hosted a high-level meeting with stakeholders and investors, focusing on the Nigeria Carbon Market and the Electric Buses Rollout Programme. These discussions occurred on the margins of the COP28 climate summit, reflecting the importance of strategic collaborations in addressing environmental challenges.

President Tinubu’s departure to Dubai for the summit, which commenced on November 29, 2023, marked a significant diplomatic engagement. The summit is expected to conclude on December 12, 2023.

Despite the substantial delegation of 1,411 Nigerian registered delegates, the government faced criticism for what many consider a bloated figure.

However, authorities clarified that they only funded 422 individuals to attend the summit, addressing concerns surrounding the delegation size.

In the midst of global efforts to address climate change, President Tinubu’s active participation in key discussions and agreements underscores Nigeria’s commitment to environmental sustainability and collaboration on an international stage.”
