President Bola Tinubu has made strategic appointments for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), adhering to the provisions of Section 59 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021. The appointments take effect from December 1, 2023.
Tinubu named Pius Akinyelure as the Non-Executive Board Chairman and retained Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO).
These decisions were communicated in a statement by Tinubu’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Monday.
Alongside Kyari and Akinyelure, the new board and management feature key members such as Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya (Chief Financial Officer), Mr. Ledum Mitee (Non-Executive Director), Mr. Musa Tumsa (Non-Executive Director), Mr. Ghali Muhammad (Non-Executive Director), Prof. Mustapha Aliyu (Non-Executive Director), Mr. David Ogbodo (Non-Executive Director), and Ms. Eunice Thomas (Non-Executive Director).
In addition to these appointments, Tinubu approved the selection of permanent secretaries for the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
Mr. Okokon Ekanem Udo is nominated for the former, while Amb. Gabriel Aduda is selected for the latter.
Ajuri emphasized that President Tinubu expects unwavering compliance with the performance-driven and results-oriented mandate of his administration.
The focus is on implementing an energy policy that maximizes current oil and gas resources while paving the way for the exploitation of new and cleaner energy sources in the future.
