The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has instructed the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Haliru Nababa, to investigate allegations made by Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Chris Musa.

The accusations imply collaboration between some NCoS personnel and inmates to fund terrorist operations.

Gen. Chris Musa presented the claims at the House of Representatives, stating that arrested Boko Haram terrorists were able to plan operations and transfer funds with the assistance of NCoS personnel.

In response to these serious allegations, Minister Tunji-Ojo condemned the unpatriotic actions of the implicated personnel.

In a statement released by his media aide, Alao Babatunde, on Thursday, the minister emphasized a swift investigation into the matter.

He affirmed that any officer found guilty of sabotaging the Nigerian Correctional Facility and compromising national security would face legal consequences.

Furthermore, the minister announced ongoing efforts to reform the correctional service to meet international standards.

The focus is on genuine rehabilitation of inmates, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. Minister Tunji-Ojo stressed that the administration is committed to tangible actions, leaving behind the era of mere rhetoric.

The statement underlined the administration’s dedication to safeguarding the state’s interests above individual concerns.

The Renewed Hope administration asserts a zero-tolerance policy for any breaches that could compromise national security.

The call for a thorough investigation reflects the government’s commitment to addressing and rectifying potential threats within its correctional facilities.
