As part of the major takeaways of the just concluded 51st Annual General Assembly of the Ipapo Descendants’ Union is the passionate plea to the town’s political gladiators to always work together irrespective of party affiliation in the interest of Ipapo and her people .
This clarion call came through the keynote address to all delegates by the President (Aare) of this august body of all indigenes of the community from across the country and in the diaspora; Alhaji Jimoh Opoola Adebayo, who observed with robust disatisfaction the position of Ipapo amongst other towns in the Local Government Area who have produced honourables, Commissioners, Top Advisers, Ambassadors, etc with non ever from Ipapo, he lamented.
He criticized the state of affairs whereby politicians in the Local Government have turned the town to a mere pot for scooping votes from, without considering the equally competent natives for top political posts.
He wondered why indigenes of the town wouldn’t be considered for higher political posts at state, national or even international levels.
This situation, which he described as Ipapo’s “political backwardness” must be addressed with all seriousness by all stakeholders in the political terrain of the town, “by coming together to always put Ipapo first” in all their political endeavours.
In similar vein, he vehemently preached against division along religious lines, emphasizing the need to hold humanity as one by guarding against divisive campaigns, mostly by post-seeking politicians.
He called for vigilance particularly amongst those resident in the town in view of the security challenges facing the country as whole, as according to him a secured environment attracts investment and promotes economic growth which subsequently leads to improvement in peoples living standards.
Corollary to this therefore, is the community investment in security architecture of the town through the construction of a modern divisional police station for the town , which is ready for handover to the police Command.
The delivery of this facility according to him will be followed by a renovation work on the Town Hall which is expected to commence immediately after the general meeting is brought to a close.
He prayed for longevity, peaceful and achievement-filled reign for the Kabiyesi, Oba Yekeen Ademola Abioye11, while thanking all delegates and residents of the town for their contributions to the development of their homeland- IPAPO.
