The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a directive to its zonal coordinators and chairpersons, calling for the mobilization of members to join the nationwide strike.
This action is in alignment with directives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The move comes in response to the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero and other executives in Owerri, Imo State, on November 1.
ASUU, as an affiliate of NLC, emphasizes unity in protecting the interests of Nigerian workers and actively calls for participation in the collective action.
The letter, signed by ASUU’s National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, was issued on Monday night. It underscores the urgency of adhering to the NLC and TUC directives, urging zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons to swiftly mobilize members.
The directive stresses that a united front is essential, stating, “A people united cannot be defeated.” The PUNCH reports that the nationwide strike is a response to the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero and pending labor issues in Imo State.
This move adds momentum to the broader collective action aimed at addressing the challenges faced by workers and union leaders, emphasizing the importance of solidarity in the face of adversity.
