The Oyo State Government, through the Local Government Staff Pension Board, has initiated an innovative approach to tackle corruption and alleviate hardships faced by prospective retirees in the state.

In a recent interactive meeting at the board’s conference room in Ibadan, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lukman Muraina, assured prospective retired teachers of ongoing efforts to prevent them from falling victim to dubious practices.

This initiative aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to the well-being of retirees.

Mr. Muraina emphasized the importance of enlightening prospective retirees about the risks of involving agents during the retirement processing phase. During the meeting, the board cleared and passed ten out of the 22 files of concerned prospective retirees for payment.

However, some files lacked essential documents, including audit clearance, payment vouchers, and treasury receipts.

Addressing the issue, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Teachers’ wing, Oyo State, Comrade Dosu Akinpelu, and the Secretary, Comrade Tunji Ogunwale, urged retirees to maintain dignity and prosperity by abstaining from involving intermediaries.

Commending the state government and the board for the innovative measures, the 22 prospective retired teachers described the interactive meeting as enlightening.

They expressed readiness to disseminate information to prospective retirees in their respective zones.

Meanwhile, prospective retirees from districts such as Ona Ara, Iseyin, Akinyele, ATIBA, Egbeda, Itesiwaju, Ibadan South East, Ibadan North East, and Oluyole were assigned agents from the board to support them through the processing journey.
