The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has taken a firm stance, declaring its intention to boycott a scheduled meeting with the Federal Government on October 30, 2023, if Minister of Labour Simon Lalong is in attendance.

The announcement was made by NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, who cited a strained relationship with Minister Lalong as the basis for their decision.

The primary focus of the meeting is to revisit and assess agreements related to the removal of fuel subsidy and the subsequent palliatives.

However, Ajaero emphasized that the NLC’s participation hinges on Minister Lalong’s absence from the proceedings.

In addition to their federal concerns, the NLC President issued a stern warning of mobilization to Imo State on November 1. This move is in response to perceived workers’ rights violations by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

Ajaero pointed to issues such as unpaid salaries, the mislabeling of pensioners as ghosts, and non-compliance with minimum wage laws as major grievances.

The NLC, a prominent labor union, is steadfast in its commitment to securing the rights and welfare of workers.

The organization calls for the adherence to previously established agreements and emphasizes the importance of addressing workers’ concerns at both the federal and state levels.

The decision to boycott the meeting with the Federal Government underscores the gravity of the issues at hand and the NLC’s determination to advocate for the well-being of workers across the nation.
