An Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has reserved judgment until October 25 in a lawsuit challenging the selection of Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomosho. The suit, marked HOG/27/2022, was filed by Prince Kabir Olaoye, alleging irregularities in the process leading to Ghandi’s emergence, as reported by The PUNCH.
The plaintiff seeks a court order to nullify Ghandi’s emergence and order a fresh process. Ghandi assumed the Soun of Ogbomosho position on September 8, 2023, months after the throne became vacant following Oba Jimoh Oyewumi’s death on December 12, 2021. Oba Oyewunmi, who ruled for 48 years, passed away at the age of 95.
Justice A.K. Adedokun fixed October 25 for judgment in the suit against Oba Ghandi, following the final address by the legal teams.
The case, revolves around alleged irregularities during the selection process, raising questions about the legitimacy of Oba Ghandi’s ascension to the throne. The court’s decision on October 25 will determine the fate of the current selection or if a fresh process will be mandated.
