The House of Representatives urges Nigerians to unite, setting aside differences for an inclusive nation that works for all. In celebrating the 63rd Independence anniversary, the House emphasizes reflection on the hope of unity, peace, and shared prosperity left by the country’s founders.

This message is conveyed in a statement by Akin Rotimi Jr., the House Spokesman, and Chairman of the House Committee on Media & Public Affairs, titled “Renewed Hope for Unity and Prosperity.”

The House acknowledges the patriots of the past, highlighting their sacrifices and the enduring legacy they left. It recognizes that many of these heroes are no longer with us, while some are now old and grey. Despite this, the foundation they laid remains evergreen, and the House celebrates their contributions, praying that their labors will never be in vain.

On the occasion of another Independence Anniversary, the House emphasizes the responsibility on both leaders and citizens to collaborate for a country that includes everyone, leaving no one behind.

The diversity of Nigeria is seen as its greatest strength, and the youthful population, along with judicious use of vast resources, is seen as key to the nation’s reintroduction to the world as the true giant of Africa.

The House, as the ‘People’s Parliament,’ is mindful of the challenges faced at this time. The 10th Assembly commits to contributing to the country’s development, following the example set by previous assemblies. It pledges to work towards achieving a reasonable living wage for workers, especially in light of palliative measures needed after the removal of the fuel subsidy.

While urging the executive arm to expedite palliative measures, the House appeals to organized labor to reconsider their intended strike action. It emphasizes the importance of working together for the best interest of the nation’s long-term growth, stability, and shared prosperity. As the statement concludes, the House wishes all Nigerians a happy 63rd Independence Anniversary.
