Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, expressed gratitude for the Election Petitions Tribunal’s ruling mandating a rerun in Lagos State’s Eti-Osa Federal Constituency. In the February 2023 election, INEC initially declared Mr. Thaddeus Atta of the Labour Party as the winner. Banky W and Ibrahim Obanikoro filed petitions contesting the results, leading to the tribunal’s decision.
Banky W, the PDP candidate, sees this as a chance to finish what was started. He emphasized the importance of perseverance, faith, and the people’s collective will in rebuilding democracy. He highlighted the frustration of voters who were prevented from participating and stressed the significance of upholding constitutional rights in elections.
Banky W also noted instances of violence, voter suppression, and INEC officers not showing up at voting locations. He praised the court’s decision to ensure that every vote is counted and every voice is heard, regardless of political affiliations.
