Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

In a significant development, Nigeria’s electricity grid suffered a total collapse at approximately 12:40 a.m. on September 14, 2023. This catastrophic event has resulted in a massive loss of power supply to distributors nationwide, causing inconvenience and disruptions across the country.

Multiple sources within the power sector and electricity distribution companies have confirmed this unfortunate incident. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) issued an official notice titled ‘Notice of Total System Collapse’ to inform its customers of the situation. According to the EEDC notice, “We wish to inform our esteemed customers of a total system collapse which occurred at 12:40 am today, September 14, 2023. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network.”

Due to this grid collapse, the EEDC, along with other distribution companies, is unable to provide power services to customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states. They are awaiting detailed information regarding the collapse and the restoration of supply from the National Control Centre in Osogbo.

It’s worth noting that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), responsible for managing the country’s grid, has yet to release an official statement regarding this incident. This blackout comes just a week after the TCN celebrated 400 days of power grid stability in Nigeria, during which no grid collapse was reported.

As this story develops, further details will be provided to keep the public informed about the situation.
