The Department of State Services (DSS) announced on Monday that it has uncovered plans by politicians from various parts of the country to organize violent protests aimed at discrediting the Federal Government and security agencies over socio-economic issues. Dr. Peter Afunanya, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement.
According to the statement, “Intelligence reports have indicated that the plotters include certain politicians who are desperately mobilizing unsuspecting student leaders, ethnic-based associations, youth, and disgruntled groups for the planned action.” The DSS has identified the ringleaders of this plot and is closely monitoring them to prevent potential disturbances that could destabilize the country.
In light of these developments, the DSS has advised University Vice-Chancellors and Heads of Tertiary Institutions to discourage their students from participating in activities that could disrupt public peace. Parents and guardians are also urged to counsel their children and wards against engaging in behaviors or actions that undermine law and order.
The statement acknowledges the government’s efforts to address the nation’s challenges and emphasizes the importance of national security. It warns those intent on subverting national security to reconsider their actions, with the DSS prepared to take legal action against individuals and groups involved in such devious plans.
It’s worth noting that the presidential election petition tribunal is scheduled to hear the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its standard bearers, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, as well as the Labour Party, challenging President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 Presidential election in September. The tribunal had previously reserved judgment after the petitioners concluded their cases in June. Both sides have called on the tribunal to remain impartial and deliver a just judgment.
