The Lagos State Government is preparing to launch full commercial operations of the Blue Rail Line, scheduled for tomorrow. Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, issued a clear warning to residents via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday. He emphasized the importance of avoiding the electrified rail tracks and instead using the government-provided overhead bridges for safety.

In his tweet, Akosile said, “Dear Lagosians, please remember that as we begin commercial operations of the Lagos Blue Line Rail transport on Monday, the rail line is electrified. Crossing the rail lines is dangerous. Please use the overhead bridges provided by the government. Thank you.”

The first phase of the Blue Rail Line, spanning from Marina to Mile 2, includes five stations: Marina, National Theatre, Iganmu, Alaba, and Orile.

In a video shared on X by the CPS, Abimbola Akinajo, the General Manager of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, stressed the importance of complying with regulations regarding the Blue Rail Line to prevent potentially dangerous situations. Akinajo emphasized, “We have communicated extensively that the Blue Line will be an electrified rail system. To cross from one side to the other, use the overhead bridges.”

She highlighted that efforts had been made to deter people from crossing the tracks, such as fencing along the Blue Line’s alignment. Despite these measures, some individuals have been seen cutting through fences and crossing the tracks illegally. Akinajo urged residents to respect safety measures, which include pedestrian crossings and accessibility for individuals with physical challenges, emphasizing that there is no valid reason to cross the tracks.”
