Ministerial nomination excites Keyamo as Senate continues screening today

The Senate has screened a total of 42 ministerial nominees out of the 48 names forwarded by the President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The President had on Friday through an Executive Order replaced the name of the Kano nominee, Dr Mariam Shetty, with Mariya Mahmoud.

In a letter read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Friday, Tinubu also nominated a former spokesman of the Bola Tinubu presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo, increasing the number of his ministerial nominees from 47 to 48.

Those screened on Friday are a former Osun governor, Adegboyega Oyetola; former Kebbi governor, Atiku Bagudu; former Plateau governor, Simon Lalong, former Zamfara governor, Bello Matawalle; and former governor of Yobe State, Ibrahim Geidam.

Others are Dr Tunji Alausa (Lagos); Senator Aliyu Abdullahi (Niger), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa), Senator Alkali Saidu (Gombe), Dr Yusuf Sununu ( Kebbi); and Zephaniah Jisalo (FCT).

Also included were Ahmed Gwarzo (Kano), Dr Isiak Salako (Ogun) and Prince Shuaibu Audu (Kogi).

Tinubu on Wednesday forwarded an additional 19 names of ministerial nominees to complement the 28 earlier sent on July 27.

The Senate began the screening of the nominees on Monday.

The nominees screened so far are a former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike; his Kaduna State counterpart, Nasir El-Rufai, and former Ebonyi governor, Senator David Umahi.

Also screened were a former acting chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Abubakar Kyari (Borno); the women leader of the All Progressive Party, Beta Edu (Cross River); a former deputy chief whip of the House of Representatives, Nkiruka Onyejiocha (Abia); a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Lateef Fagbemi, (Kwara); and Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media, Strategy and Special Duties, Dele Alake (Ekiti State).

Also contained in the list are a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Adebayo Adelabu (Oyo); former Minister of Health, Ali Pate (Bauchi State); Senator John Eno (Cross River); Abubakar Momoh (Edo); Ambassador Yusuf Maitama, (Bauchi), Ahmad Dangiwa (Katsina), and Hanatu Musawa (Katsina).

The list also included Chief Uche Nnaji (Enugu), Doris Anite Uzoka (Imo), Mohammad Badaru (Jigawa), Ekperikpe Ekpo (Akwa), Olubumi Tunde Ojo (Ondo) Stella Okotete (Delta) Uju Ohanaeye (Anambra), Bello Goronyo (Sokoto).
