It was a remarkable moment for a former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, as he celebrated his 60th birthday on Wednesday, June 14, in Lagos.
In a congratulatory message that sort of set the tone for the day, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through his media adviser, Gboyega Akosile, praised the efforts of Ambode and wished him many more fruitful years in good health.
Sanwo-Olu said, “On behalf of my adorable wife, Ibijoke, the government and good people of Lagos State, I join family, friends and political associates of my predecessor, former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to congratulate him on his 60th birthday.
“Mr Akinwunmi Ambode dedicated his young and adult life to the service of Lagos State, first as a civil servant and later as the 14th governor of our dear Lagos State. He displayed a high level of integrity, dedication and professionalism to service in the public sector.
“He recorded some achievements and also made positive and significant impacts in some sectors during his tenure as Lagos State governor, working for the continuous growth and development of our state. I wish him a happy birthday and pray that he witnesses many more fruitful years in good health.”
Attending the birthday party later in the evening, Sanwo-Olu wore a white outfit. He walked closely with the host and was accompanied by some of his associates. On his part, Ambode wore a white shirt and blue trousers.
Sanwo-Olu later made a toast for the birthday boy.
There was also a live band on the ground to entertain the guests.
Ambode, in turn, appreciated Sanwo-Olu for the visit. He said, “I want to say ‘thank you’, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. What you have done today is pleasing to our hearts.
“We are happy that this happened at a moment where I am marking my 60th birthday. I want to show appreciation for all the kind words you have said to me and expressed in the media. I strongly believe God will continue to strengthen your courage and ability to deliver greater good to the larger humanity. This is what is expected. I believe strongly that with what you have done today, we will all work to ensure that you leave a good legacy.”
The host also got congratulatory messages from several personalities, including a former Commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lagos State, Steve Ayorinde; actors, Foluke Daramola, Yinka Quadri, Salawa Abeni and Bose Alao.
