Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Iyabo Yerima, chief judge of Oyo State, may use 5 more years with the signing into law by Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s president, the amendment bill on uniformity in retirement age of judicial officers, Dejoymedia.online has learnt.
Retirement age and pension rights of judicial officers have been effectively brought into uniformity and other related matters, with the signing into law the bill by Tinubu on Thursday.
Dejoymedia.online understands that until Thursday, high court judges retire at 65 years while it is 70 years for their counterparts in the court of appeal and the supreme court.
The new law extends the retirement age of high court judges like Yerima, who would be 65 in September to 70 years.

Born on September 8, 1958, Yerima had became acting CJ on January 16th, 2023 following the expiration of the tenure of her predecessor, Munta Abimbola. She was later confirmed by the Oyo state house of assembly on April 12.
