The Executive Vice- Chairman, Nigeria Communications Commission , Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta today (Thursday) ,in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State while declaring open the first edition of what the agency tagged “Talk-to-the-Regulator Forum” said that over 150million Nigerians have access to internet, with over 80million accessing high speed internet.
In his opening remarks at the first telecom stakeholders interactive Forum, made available to dejoymedia.online, Danbatta reiterated the need for such one-on-one interactive fora amongst the key stakeholders in the telecom sector of the economy in order to constantly exchange information regarding the latest developments within the sector to ensuring continuous improvement in regulations, as well as in service delivery to the consumers of telecom services.
He declared further that the telecom industry has recorded giant strides particularly in the area of “rapid growth in technology” with the attendant redefinition of Service delivery, to the satisfaction of all the stakeholders.
According to him other interventions and responses aiding speedy service include amongst others: roll-out of 5G service provision, mobile virtual network operation,( to bridge the gap between covered and uncovered areas), continuous review of the “scope and structure of the current licenses to accommodate new industry trends.
In view of the foregoing; Danbatta declared that the NCC is poised to make possible the 90% Broadband penetration by year 2025, while recording above 50%by the end of the current year-2023, as envisaged by the Nigeria National Broadband Plan- (NNBP-2020-2025).
