The four-day free Medical Outreach embarked upon by the duo of Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation and Dr Ahmed Raji SAN, in Kisi, headquarters of Irepo local government area of Oyo state, has wound down over the weekend after attending to over a thousand patients with various health challenges and performing surgeries on over fifty patients with cataract.

It will be recalled that the previous versions of the exercise in Iseyin and Saki did not feature surgeries like the latest edition in Kisi which was notched up with sight – restoring cataract extraction surgeries for over fifty sufferers. While others with hearing impairment got their ears washed and cleaned, several others who require hearing aids were given.

Those with sight issues were thoroughly examined and those needing glasses were also given for free, whilst some were booked for surgery. Those with other general health issues were also examined with necessary tests carried out and appropriate drugs offered or prescribed.

According to Dr Olalekan Makinde – Head of the Obasanjo Foundation medical personnel, the surgical team of six from the Obasanjo Foundation, assisted by two others locally, arrived Kisi Thursday, January 9, with just one day left for the programme to end, worked day and night, to achieve the feat, necessitating their having to leave Kisi on Saturday, a day after the programme had officially come to a close.

In Makinde’s words, “we completed approximately 50 surgeries for cataracts removal as planned, as well as a few other eye surgeries.”A cross-section of the beneficiaries interviewed expressed their appreciation to all those who facilitated the highly successful programme.
