Passengers from two Abuja-bound buses were abducted in the Inele-Eteke Ogugu area of Kogi East district.
The incident involved buses operated by GIG and ABC Transport, both traveling from the eastern part of Nigeria to the nation’s capital.
Confirming the incident, Kogi State Police Command stated that efforts are underway to rescue the victims.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area, along with local vigilantes and hunters, have initiated a search operation in the bush where the abduction took place.
According to reports, the GIG bus departed from Umuahia in Abia State and was en route to Abuja when the abduction occurred. GIG has alerted security agencies to assist in tracking down the abductors.
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police has deployed additional tactical units, including a Quick Response Unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and conventional police personnel, to intensify the search and ensure the safe rescue of all victims.
This abduction adds to the growing trend of kidnapping incidents across the country, despite ongoing security measures. The incident underscores the need for a more robust response to insecurity, as emphasized by security consultant Captain Umar Aliyu (Rtd).
