The Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, SAN, announced on Tuesday that the commission will soon initiate the recruitment process for Ad-hoc staff for the upcoming Chairmanship and Councillorship elections scheduled for April 27, 2024.

Successful applicants will receive comprehensive training with support from INEC and election management experts. Training will be conducted zone by zone to ensure a thorough understanding of duties.

Olagunju emphasized the commission’s commitment to a peaceful election, collaborating with security agencies.

He cautioned against vote buying, highlighting severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines ranging from #100,000 to #50,000,000 for electoral offenses.

The election will adhere to an open secret ballot system, and residents can access results online through designated applications.

Highlighting the significance of local government, Olagunju urged residents to contribute to community development.

He commended political parties for cooperation, noting the extended notice period of 365 days due to new electoral laws.

The Chairman expressed satisfaction with the absence of court cases related to party primaries, emphasizing the forthcoming announcement of the ad-hoc staff recruitment process and zoning-based training.

Campaigning has been active since December, with gratitude extended to political parties, citizens, and residents for their willingness to participate in the local government councils elections.
