In a recent development following the launch of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) by Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, 16 notorious criminals have been apprehended in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with arms and ammunition recovered.
Notable among the suspects are three Bwari-based kidnappers, Idris Ishaku, Bala Umar, and Dahiru Salisu, responsible for various armed robberies and kidnappings in Bwari and other parts of Abuja. The police, in a statement by Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, highlighted the successful foiling of a kidnap plot, resulting in the arrest of the mentioned kidnappers and the recovery of weapons.
The arrests also include individuals involved in other criminal activities, such as a gunrunner negotiating with bandits. The police have been proactive in addressing recent criminal incidents, including the tragic abduction in the Bwari Area Council on January 3, 2024, where one of the kidnapped siblings was reportedly killed.
Adejobi assured ongoing efforts to apprehend criminals and shared details of a successful operation rescuing a victim and recovering a hijacked vehicle in Kaduna. The statement emphasized the need for vigilance and reiterated the commitment to curbing criminal activities.
