Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde revealed on Wednesday that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate of a mining company implicated in Tuesday’s explosion in Bodija, Oyo State, shows foreign names as owners.
The death toll has risen to three, with one more victim succumbing to injuries. Governor Makinde, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, emphasized the need for thorough investigations into the company and identified an individual of interest.
The blast, attributed to illegal miners storing explosives in a residential area, prompted the governor to consider seeking presidential approval for miners to store explosives with the military. Temporary shelter has been provided for affected residents in hotels.
The incident, which occurred on Adeyi Avenue, Bodija, resulted in widespread panic and destruction. Preliminary findings indicate that illegal miners were occupying a house in Bodija, causing the explosion felt in various parts of Ibadan. Ongoing investigations aim to hold those responsible accountable.
