Makinde Appoints Mrs. Salawu Olaide Oluwatoyin as Deputy Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Mrs. Salawu Olaide Oluwatoyin as the Deputy Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan. This decision, announced on January 10, 2024, follows Mrs. Salawu’s election in October of the previous year.

The approval comes after the Deputy Rectorship election held on October 25, 2023, and subsequent ratification by the Board of Studies. The statement conveyed the appointment, effective from November 1, 2023, to October 31, 2025, in a letter dated January 10, 2024.

In her new role, Mrs. Salawu will be responsible to the Rector for the day-to-day administration of the institution and will undertake duties as assigned by the Rector. The position became vacant following the completion of the two-term tenure of the former Deputy Rector, Mrs. Olubunmi Olubamiwa.

Mrs. Salawu Olaide Oluwatoyin, an indigene of Ibadan, joined The Polytechnic, Ibadan on September 20, 1993, as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. She ascended through the ranks, reaching the position of Chief Lecturer in October 2010.

With a wealth of experience, Mrs. Salawu has held various positions within the institution, including Head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Dean of the Faculty of Science. She served as the Dean of the Faculty of Science from 2013 to 2017 and chaired the Sports Advisory Committee from 2017 to 2021.

Mrs. Salawu’s educational journey includes studies at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Ibadan, from 1979 to 1984. She pursued tertiary education at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, obtaining a National Diploma Certificate in Statistics from 1985 to 1987.

She furthered her studies at the University of Ilorin, earning a B.Sc. in Statistics from 1988 to 1991. Additionally, she obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Economics in 1995 and another M.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Ibadan in the same year. Currently, Mrs. Salawu is a Doctoral Student in Statistics at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Married to Mr. Isiaka Salawu, a retired Chief Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, they are blessed with children.
