The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) is calling on the Federal Government and anti-graft agencies to identify the alleged accomplices of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Farouq.
CISLAC Executive Director Auwal Rafsanjani expressed the need for a thorough investigation into the fraud allegedly perpetrated by both ministers.
He emphasized the importance of uncovering those who may have collaborated with them to understand the full extent of the situation.
Rafsanjani highlighted the irony that a ministry intended to be sympathetic to citizens is embroiled in allegations of funds diversion.
He urged President Bola Tinubu to initiate sweeping reforms within ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), stating that fund diversions are not isolated to the humanitarian ministry.
While commending the Federal Government for probing both the current and former ministers, Rafsanjani stressed the necessity of taking these investigations seriously, especially in the context of the country’s financial challenges.
He emphasized the importance of political will to pursue these probes to completion and extend such investigations to other MDAs.
The controversy surrounding Betta Edu’s alleged involvement in approving N585,198,500.00 for disbursement into a personal account prompted President Tinubu to order a comprehensive probe of her ministry.
Simultaneously, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating Edu’s predecessor, Sadiya Farouq, over alleged money laundering during her tenure under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
