The Federal Government is slated to close the Iyana Oworonshoki-Adeniji Adele section of the Third Mainland Bridge for repairs starting at 11 am on Tuesday, January 9th, 2024.

Engr. (Mrs.) O. I. Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, revealed in a Thursday statement that the closure is part of the ongoing emergency repairs for the entire section of the bridge.

The Third Mainland Bridge is Africa’s second-largest, stretching almost 12 kilometres to connect Lagos Island, the city’s business hub, with the mainland, where most residents live.

It was constructed in 1990, serving as a vital link in Nigeria’s economic engine.

Motorists are urged to use alternative routes during the closure, with suggested options including Ojota-Ikorodu road-Funsho Williams Avenue-EKO bridge-Apogbon-CMS, Ojota-Ikorodu road-Jibowu-Yaba-Oyingbo-Iddo-Carter bridge-CMS, and Gbagada-Anthony-Ikorodu road-Funsho Williams-Eko bridge-Apogbon-CMS.

The Federal Controller emphasizes the importance of cooperation with traffic management officials deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize discomfort during the repair period. Gratitude is expressed to the public for past cooperation, with an appeal for continued understanding during this crucial maintenance phase.
