The Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) achieves convictions of thirty-seven internet fraudsters across various courts in Oyo and Ogun States. The convictions resulted from arraignments conducted between November and December 2023.
The charges brought against the individuals involve one-count charges for offenses such as personation and aiding fraud.
Notable among the convicted individuals are Aladelusi, Oluwaseun, Adebayo, Owolabi, Damilare, Udanyi, and others. The sentences handed down range from one month to one year imprisonment and community service.
These convictions were secured before Justices Ladiran Akintola, O.A. Olajide, J.O. Adeyemi, Bayo Taiwo, and M.O. Ishola of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan; Justice Uche Agomoh of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State; and Justices A.A. Babawale, A.A. Akinyemi, and S.O. Adeniyi of the Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta.
Apart from the legal consequences, the courts order the convicted individuals to restitute their various victims.
Additionally, they are directed to forfeit all items recovered from them, including seven exotic cars, to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
These convictions are the result of the EFCC’s thorough investigation and prosecution of individuals involved in internet-related offenses.
The convicted fraudsters had been arrested by EFCC operatives for their roles in various internet-related crimes, and the legal process led to their convictions.
