During a brief ceremony at the bridge’s toll area, Minister of Works Dave Umahi expressed satisfaction with the project, confirming repairs on vandalized sections.
The minister hinted at the bridge’s potential concession to a private company for ancillary road completion and toll collection. Umahi also mentioned ongoing efforts to ease festive period traffic on both old and new bridges.
Spanning 1.6 kilometers, the bridge connects Anambra and Delta states. Initially proposed during the 1978/79 political campaign by then-candidate Shehu Shagari, the Second Niger Bridge has now seen significant progress.
