After a peace meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Ondo State House of Assembly members plan to convene on Tuesday to deliberate on key issues.
Among the agenda items is the consideration of declaring Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as acting governor due to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s prolonged absence. The move is perceived as a result of the discussions with President Tinubu.
The Assembly had initially considered impeaching the deputy, but following the meeting, they announced dropping the impeachment plan.
The crisis arose upon Akeredolu’s return from a medical vacation, triggering a political standoff.
According to the PUNCH, when contacted, the Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, mentioned being in a meeting and deferred confirmation about the Tuesday sitting.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no information from the Speaker.
The Assembly’s decision follows the Friday meeting with President Tinubu, where it was resolved to maintain the status quo, meaning Akeredolu continues as governor, Aiyedatiwa as deputy governor, and no impeachment proceedings.
