The Oyo State Government has issued a directive to all commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators, instructing them to enroll in the Oyo State Residents’ Registration Scheme by December 31, 2023.
Governor ‘Seyi Makinde conveyed this decision following the state’s Security Council Meeting on Wednesday.
The aim is to tackle the challenges associated with commercial motorcycle and tricycle operations, ultimately enhancing the overall security of the state.
Starting January 1, 2024, the state will prohibit the operation of any unregistered motorcycle or tricycle. Governor Makinde emphasized that all commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders must undergo registration, providing their biometrics, names, motorcycle registration number, next of kin details, and other essential information.
In addition to registration, operators are required to have reflective jackets, which must be worn at all times. The state government intends to rigorously enforce these directives to ensure compliance and enhance overall safety.
The Oyo State Residents’ Registration Scheme, initiated under Omituntun 1.0, is already in progress, with the commercial transport segment actively underway at nearly 50 centers in motorparks and okada parks throughout the state.
