Tragedy struck at the Canadian Embassy in the FCT as two lives were lost in a diesel tank explosion during generator maintenance.
The incident occurred around 10:45 am, resulting in thick smoke near key diplomatic offices.
The FCT Fire Service reported two fatalities and two severe burn cases at the National Hospital Trauma Centre.
The explosion occurred while a team from JMD company serviced two MIKANO engines, causing a 2000-liter diesel tank to explode in the generator house.
President Bola Tinubu expressed condolences, pledging full government support for those affected.
He assured the Canadian authorities of Nigeria’s assistance for diplomatic and local staff of the High Commission impacted by the incident.
“The President prays for the repose of the departed souls and wishes all injured persons a rapid and full recovery,” read a statement by Tinubu’s spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.
