Some students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, have initiated legal proceedings against Governor Seyi Makinde and others.
This action comes in response to the decision to relocate the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences to the newly established Faculty of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources at Iseyin Campus.
For the second semester of the current academic session, second-year students were instructed to move to Iseyin.
The lawsuit, marked HOG/34/2023 and filed at an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso, includes Akintayo Abdulqoyuum Ajibola, Onwi Edet, Ezekiel Ogunmola, and Aderemi Olude as plaintiffs, representing themselves and other 200 Level students along with their parents.
While the hearing date is pending, the court paper, dated October 30, names the state Commissioner for Education, the acting Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, and the Provost of Iseyin campus as additional defendants in the case.
The claimants seek a court order restraining the governor and his agents from executing the planned relocation.
This legal action reflects the concerns and resistance of students and parents to the proposed move, adding a layer of complexity to the ongoing developments at the university.
