OYSIEC Launches Candidate Screening Ahead of Oyo Local Government Elections in 2024

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has commenced the screening process for political party candidates ahead of the April 27th, 2024 Local Government Council Elections.

Speaking at the screening exercise held at OYSIEC Headquarters in Agodi – Gate, Ibadan, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju, the Chairman of the Commission, emphasized that the screening aims to identify political parties aligning with the list of candidates for chairmanship and councillorship seats submitted by each party.

Olagunju assured that the commission has made necessary arrangements to ensure an equal playing field for all political parties and their candidates during the upcoming elections.

Following the screening exercise, candidates provided insights into the process. Comrade Tunde Ogunniyi, the Chairmanship Candidate for the Young Progressive Party in Atisbo Local Government, and Solomon Emiola, Councillorship Candidate for the African Action Congress in Ward Eight (8), Akinyele Local Government, Ibadan, expressed satisfaction.

They noted that the screening was based on the documents submitted to the commission, aligning seamlessly with the credentials presented on the screening day.
