The Lagos State Government is set to commence the removal of perimeter fences within two meters of drainage channels on Norman Williams, Awolowo, and Ribadu roads in Ikoyi.
This decision, announced by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, follows the conclusion of the grace period granted to property owners in the affected areas.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab visited Norman Williams Street on Sunday to assess the level of compliance.
Expressing concern, he noted, “It is discouraging to see that just a few homeowners have complied while a larger percentage have not made any move regarding the matter.”
Accompanying the commissioner, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, condemned the recalcitrant attitude displayed by some homeowners during the visit.
This initiative emphasizes the government’s commitment to environmental regulations and the necessity of collective compliance for effective urban planning and drainage maintenance.
