In an effort to secure the musical rights of the late singer Mohbad, also known as Ilerioluwa Aloba, the House of Representatives summoned controversial artist Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, on Thursday.
The House Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance also extended an invitation to Mohbad’s manager, Jiggy Adeoye, requesting their appearance on October 31.
Mohbad, a former signee under Naira Marley’s record label, passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances, prompting a coroner’s inquest by the Lagos State Government.
The House’s decision stems from a motion introduced by Babajimi Benson, the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Lagos State.
Benson underscored the necessity of reviewing the laws governing the entertainment industry to protect artists’ copyrights and royalties.
This move reflects a broader initiative to address concerns surrounding the industry, particularly in the aftermath of Mohbad’s contentious demise.
The House Committee aims to delve into these issues during the scheduled appearance on October 31.
