Three Islamic clerics have been arrested by the police for allegedly beheading a surveyor in the Moniya area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
One of the clerics, a landlord in Alapata, Apete, was located a few blocks away from the surveyor’s office. The surveyor, well-known for land transactions in the area, was lured to a bush in Moniya under the pretext of a job award and subsequently killed and beheaded.
The trio was apprehended in the Sango area of Ibadan, causing confusion in the Alapata community.
Residents expressed shock, particularly as one of the suspects was a popular cleric recognized for his distinct turban in the Islamic community of Alapata.
CSP Akande Rufus Adegoke, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Apete, confirmed the incident.
He stated that while the alleged killers were landlords in his jurisdiction, the crime itself was committed in Moniya.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation.
