Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has strongly denied allegations of an assassination attempt, countering reports that emerged on Sunday.
The incident, as described by the State Commissioner for Information, involved attackers in military attire and occurred around 4 p.m. on October 22.
According to the commissioner, the assailants waylaid the governor’s convoy, shooting sporadically at his vehicle and others in the convoy.
He highlighted the swift intervention of security personnel attached to the governor, which thwarted the alleged plans of the unknown soldiers.
However, in a Facebook Live session on Sunday, Governor Bello refuted the claims, asserting that there was no such attempt on his life.
He emphasized that the incident was a minor fracas between the military and the police in his convoy, resolving within a short span of five minutes.
Bello cautioned against spreading fake news, expressing concern that misguided elements might misinterpret the situation.
