President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, sanctioned the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This appointment is for a renewable term of four years in the first instance, subject to Senate confirmation. The decision comes approximately four months after the suspension of the former EFCC chief, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The official statement, titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new EFCC Chairman and Secretary of the Commission,’ conveyed the news of Mr. Olukoyede’s appointment. It was issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The appointment of Mr. Olukoyede follows the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, as highlighted in the statement.
The new appointee, Mr. Olukoyede, is a legal professional with an extensive background, boasting over 22 years of experience as a regulatory compliance consultant. His expertise extends to being a specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence.
Pending confirmation by the Senate, Mr. Olukoyede is set to take on the responsibility of leading the EFCC in its crucial role in combating economic and financial crimes.
This appointment underlines President Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining effective leadership within the commission and ensuring continuity in its mandate.
