The Federal Government expresses optimism about obtaining the WHO-recommended R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine for children by mid-2024.
Dr. Faisal Shuaib, CEO of NPHCDA, emphasizes Nigeria’s priority due to the high malaria burden among children. The WHO’s recent recommendation marks a significant step in malaria prevention.
Shuaib collaborates with Gavi, and an official announcement on the vaccine’s availability is expected soon. He highlights that WHO prioritizes countries with a high malaria burden, making Nigeria a focal point.
“We are working with our partner, Gavi, and it is a priority for us. We will announce the date when Nigeria will get it in the next few days but it is great news that the WHO has recommended the vaccine,” he said.
