While not entering a formal plea, her attorney indicated a not guilty plea. The next court appearance is scheduled for October 30 at Southwark Crown Court.

The UK’s National Crime Agency suspects her involvement in bribery related to oil and gas contracts. In a statement, the agency detailed alleged benefits, including cash, luxury items, and the use of London properties.

Efforts for extradition to Nigeria have commenced, where she faces money laundering charges. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria confirmed initiating extradition proceedings.

Diezani served as the Minister of Petroleum Resources from 2010 to 2015. Allegations of her involvement in corruption led to her departure from Nigeria in 2015. The EFCC accuses her of stealing $2.5bn from the Nigerian government.

Despite the UK charges differing, the EFCC underscores its commitment to her trial, covering jurisdictions in Dubai, the UK, the USA, and Nigeria.

The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, stated, “No crime can go unpunished. The commission is on course on her trial. She will soon have her day in our courts.”
