Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele’s reported N50 billion non-prosecution plea bargain has been discredited by the Federal Government. The Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi, denies any such deal, stating there is no truth to the allegations.
The government clarified that neither the presidency nor the Attorney General’s office has engaged in any plea bargain arrangement with Emefiele. The statement emphasizes that the reports are entirely false and advises the public to disregard them.
The legal team representing Emefiele had expressed an intention for a plea bargain in court, but no agreement has been reached. The Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice assures that all actions will be taken in the interest of the Nigerian public.
