A socio-political group known as the Atunluse Initiatives in the South-West has called upon religious and traditional leaders, as well as concerned citizens in Ondo State, to intervene and prevent the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state from escalating the current political crisis.
The group expressed deep concern over the impeachment process initiated against the Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, by the state House of Assembly, deeming the situation intolerable.
Akin Akinbobola, the chairman of the group, voiced dissatisfaction with the state of affairs in Ondo, alleging that the APC had prioritized politics over governance. He lamented the discord among influential figures in the state and emphasized that the people of Ondo State were suffering as a result.
Akinbobola stated, “It’s very unfortunate that this APC government in Ondo State does not appreciate the power to serve entrusted in their hands by the people of Ondo State.” He criticized the focus on political power struggles rather than legislating for the betterment of the citizens.
While extending congratulations to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on his recovery from illness, the group expressed hope that his return would restore stability to the state.
They cautioned that if Akeredolu failed to address the internal strife within the APC, the people of Ondo State might take action against both the executive and legislative branches.
In response, the Chairman of the Ondo APC, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, refuted any connection between the party and the impeachment proceedings against the deputy governor.
Adetimehin emphasized that the House of Assembly included members from various political affiliations and that their actions did not hinder governance, asserting that lawmakers were working to deliver democracy’s benefits to the people.
