Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has lauded the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi as an iconic figure responsible for designing one of Nigeria’s most significant symbols. Idris expressed these sentiments during a condolence visit to Pa Akinkunmi’s family in Elebu, Ibadan, on Monday. President Bola Tinubu had initiated the visit to convey his condolences and emphasize the importance of the late Akinkunmi’s legacy in representing the unity and oneness of Nigeria.
“The late Akinkunmi represented the unity and oneness of the country through the legacy he left behind,” Minister Idris stated, speaking on behalf of President Tinubu and the Federal Government. He assured the family that their requests during this time would be addressed.
The minister also paid a courtesy visit to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, emphasizing the enduring significance of the national flag, which Akinkunmi designed. Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, representing the governor, acknowledged Akinkunmi’s foresight in highlighting agriculture’s importance and the symbolism of the white color on the flag, representing peace and unity.
Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi passed away last week at the age of 87.
